40 Day Habit Challenge

Small Daily Habits for Lasting Change

The focus of the 40 Day Habit Challenge is to encourage Christians to grow in the habit of reading God’s word each day. For many people in our churches, they already know that this is an important part of growing as a Christian but find it hard to make real progress in practise. The habit challenge is a practical way for people to take a step forward.

Alongside the Bible reading habit, there are four other daily habits – prayer, exercise, reading a Christian book and something that you choose. The challenge works with the support and accountability of a small group of people connecting using WhatsApp or a similar platform.

Growing Together as a Church

The 40 Day Habit Challenge is designed to be undertaken together as a church rather than simply used by individuals. This doesn’t mean the challenge is for everyone, in fact, a key aspect of the challenge is that participation should be voluntary. However, for those who are opt-in, there are many benefits that comes from completing the challenge as part of our church:

  • The group structure provide accountability for the challenge
  • People can learn from the experience of others in their group
  • An opportunity to builds fellowship, especially if the groups are outside normal church structures
  • Encourages deeper conversations, for example, group members can more easily chat about they are reading in the Bible.

Please see the guide to launching the challenge in your church for how you might go about this.

I’m Here to Help!

I have seen the positive impact of the 40 Day Habit Challenge on many people at our church, and I’d love to see its benefits extend to other churches. I’ve included resources on this website to help you prepare, launch and run the challenge at your church. Please see our resource page here.

If you have questions or would like to talk through how the challenge could work in your context, please get in touch. I’d be glad to chat further.
